Clean Salons - What Precautions Do Professionals Take?

Insights

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at September 30th, 2022

A trip to the lash salon should be a fun, relaxing, and pleasant time - you should never exit a salon worried about your hygiene, health, and safety! Licensed eyebrow, eyelash, and facial artists at reputable salons take thorough precautions to protect their clients’ well-being. Let’s talk about short-term, and long-term safety precautions professionals take in salons.

Salon Health and Safety Precautions

  • Regularly Clean And Use Disinfectant

Even before the onset of new health regulations due to COVID-19, salons kept some of the most regimented cleaning routines. Many people come through a salon daily, and surfaces see a lot of traffic. Thus, regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces is necessary for health and safety. Salon professionals must clean each surface with cleaning agents before disinfecting them with hospital-grade disinfectants. A clean salon disinfects all surfaces, including counters, chairs, and other furniture, multiple times a day; This ensures everyone stays safe and protected from the possible spread of illnesses.
  • Dispose Of Single-Use Tools And Replace Others

Salon professionals use various single-use tools, meaning that these pose risks to clients if used more than once. Single-use tools include items like sponges, gauze pads, wax strips, eyelash adhesives, and many other industry-specific tools. In clean salons, these items are used only once on individual clients and disposed of immediately afterward - no salon should be using single-use tools around for repeat use.
  • No Smoking or Pets Allowed (Sorry Floofs!)

While some establishments might be pet-friendly and/or smoking-friendly, salons should not be one of them! We know - we love our pets too! But cats, dogs, and even ferrets do not belong in a salon! Professional salons should have rules against smoking indoors to benefit patrons' health and safety. Exposure to secondhand smoke significantly increases your chances of getting lung cancer, and ashes from cigarettes also run the risk of igniting one of the many flammable liquids or materials frequently used in salons.  Since pets make it nearly impossible to keep a salon completely clean and disinfected, salons should not allow pets, except for service animals.
