How To Make Eyelash Extensions Last Longer - Tips from the Professionals!

Eyelash Extensions

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at October 27th, 2021

Eyelash extensions are an accessible and beautiful way to add style to your routine; at Chic Lash Boutique, we’re kind of obsessed with fabulous eyelash extensions! Few convenient lash accessories look as natural as eyelash extensions. With proper knowledge and applied care, eyelash extensions can be a non-invasive component of your daily beauty routine. It’s also important to consistently visit your trusted eyelash and eyebrow salon to keep your extensions intact and looking great. If you’re in a position where you can’t make it to your trusted salon, there are strategies and tips to taking care of your lashes if you must skip a visit to your neighborhood eyelash salon. While you should keep a consistent appointment schedule, some basic hygienic practices can keep eyelash extensions from wearing out sooner than desired. If you’d like your eyelash extensions to last longer, here are some tips that we, as professionals lash artists, endorse!

Sleep on Your Back

It can be difficult to control your body’s movement during the night, but it is beneficial to start out sleeping on your back for many reasons! Sleeping on your stomach can push the extensions into your pillow, making them fall out quicker. If you know you’re prone to sleeping on your stomach, sleep with a silk pillow; this will prevent major damage to your eyelash extensions.

Choose Naturally-Shaped Extensions

Ask your stylist/artist for natural extensions that match the shape and contour of your eyelashes. Choosing lashes that have accentuated curvature that doesn't match your eyelashes are harder to care for and require more maintenance. For example, people with straight eyelashes shouldn’t get extensions that are long and curly unless they plan to visit the salon often to keep them lasting.

Ask for Lighter Lash Extensions

If you’re just starting out, ask your stylist to give you lighter extensions. Thick extensions can be heavy, increasing weight and pressure to your natural lashes. When eyelash extensions are too heavy, they can peel and fall off quicker. Lash extensions do require care and attention to keep them looking great, so if you’re new to lash extensions, it may be a good idea to start with some extensions that are lower in maintenance requirements.

Apply an Eyelash Sealer

To keep your eyelash extensions in place, use an eyelash sealer. Apply it to your extensions in the morning to keep them healthy and strong throughout the day. An experienced lash artist will apply sealer upon your initial visit, but it does need reapplying to keep the bond strong.

Clean Your Face Carefully

When washing your face or using hygienic products, try your best to avoid your eyes. This is especially true with heavy oils. Also, creams can break down the glue keeping the lashes in place. When this happens, they fall out prematurely. You should also avoid using waterproof mascara and intense facial cleaners. Extreme rubbing and touching of the facial area can damage your extensions. Just take it easy and wash your face with lots of care when you have eyelash extensions in place. It's also important to brush your extensions with a mascara brush in order to brush out any tangles, dirt, and debris that could be weighing down the lashes. It's great for proper hygiene and keeps your lashes from naturally clumping. To learn more about eyelash extensions, click the link! Also, click to book your eyelash extension appointment today!
