What Are The Microblading Healing Stages?

Microblading

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at September 5th, 2024

Congratulations on your freshly microbladed brows! This is the beginning of your journey to perfectly sculpted eyebrows, and it’s essential to understand the microblading healing process to ensure your results are as flawless as possible.    Proper aftercare is key to maintaining the integrity of your brows and helping the pigment set beautifully. After a microblading session, your skin will heal in stages over 30 days. Let’s dive into each phase and what you can expect along the way.

The Microblading Healing Stages

  • Day 1: Bold and Beautiful
When you step out of the microblading salon, your brows will look bold, defined, and significantly darker than you may have expected. Don’t be alarmed—this is completely normal and part of the process. Your skin may feel tender, and there might be some redness and swelling around the area, but these symptoms typically subside within a day or two. Your new brows are very delicate at this stage, so it’s crucial to avoid touching them, as this can introduce bacteria and lead to infection. Also, keeping your brows dry is essential; water exposure can interfere with the pigment setting correctly.
  • Days 2-4: Scabbing and Darkening
As your skin starts to heal, microblading scabbing will form over your brows. During these days, the pigment may darken, which might seem alarming initially, but it’s all part of the process. This phase can feel frustrating because the scabs might make your brows look uneven or patchy. However, you must resist the urge to pick or scratch at the scabs. Pulling them off prematurely can remove pigment and affect your final results. Instead, let the scabs fall off naturally. Keep your brows clean and dry to support proper healing, and avoid skincare products on or around the area.
  • Days 5-10: Peeling and Flaking
This is the phase where your brows might start to peel and flake, revealing lighter patches underneath. It’s also the itchiest part of the process, which can be challenging. Your brows may look uneven, but this is perfectly normal and temporary. The pigment is still settling into your skin, and the peeling skin is part of the healing process. While it might be tempting to scratch, peel, or use products to speed things up, it’s best to leave your brows alone. Scratching or applying products can lead to patchiness or uneven pigment retention.
  • Days 11-14: Lightening
By the two-week mark, most of the visible healing is complete. The scabs are gone, and the peeling has stopped. However, your brows may now appear lighter than expected, and you might even notice some areas where the pigment seems to have faded. Don’t worry—this is all part of the healing process. Over the coming weeks, the pigment will continue to develop and stabilize, blending seamlessly into your skin for a natural look. At this stage, protecting your brows from sun exposure is essential, which can cause premature fading. You should also avoid using harsh skincare products, such as exfoliants, on or near your brows. Trust the process—your brows are settling into their final form, and the results will be worth it.
  • Days 15-30: Finalizing
As you approach the end of the first month, your brows will have healed significantly, and the pigment will have fully settled into your skin. With any earlier-stage patchiness resolving itself, they’ll look more natural and balanced. If you notice any remaining unevenness or areas where the pigment appears lighter, don’t worry—this is why touch-up sessions are typically scheduled around the six-week mark. During this stage, protect your brows from sun exposure and avoid harsh products that might affect the pigment. With proper care, your microbladed brows will look stunning for months. Regular microblading touch-ups will help preserve their shape and color, keeping your brows flawless for the long term.
