How Often Should You Wash Your Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a smart, chic, and beautiful way to accentuate your style! However, some maintenance comes with having eyelash extensions, and it must be done to prevent problems and keep your extensions from falling out prematurely.  Here’s what you need to know about cleaning your eyelash extensions, how frequently they need to be washed, and how to do it independently at home.

Why Should You Wash Your Eyelash Extensions?

Simply put, washing your eyelash extensions prevents potential infections and irritation. Leaving your lashes unchecked for too long could lead to bacteria buildup, mites, or other eye-related complications like blepharitis. Plus, washing your lash extensions simply helps them last longer, and that’s a great thing! Make sure to keep an eye out (no pun intended) for irritation, even if you’re washing your lashes. Please see a medical professional if you notice redness, tender eyelid skin, or inflammation; this could also be an allergic reaction to the glue used to attach your extensions. It is always important to discuss any allergies you may have with your lash artist.

When to Wash Your Eyelash Extensions

You don’t want to wash your eyelash extensions immediately after the application to allow them to cure fully. Generally speaking, you should be able to wash them about 48 hours after they’re applied. How often you wash your extensions may depend on how oily your eyelid skin tends to be and what kind of activities you do. The average person should wash their eyelash extensions every 2-3 days. However, you should always wash your lashes after a workout or clean them daily if you’re prone to oily skin.

How to Clean Your Eyelash Extensions

To properly clean your eyelash extensions, you must allow them to cure fully, which is very important. Extensions that have been cured properly become waterproof and maintain their stylish appearance for weeks. After the first 48 hours, use an oil-free makeup remover to remove any other cosmetics from your lashes. From there, use a specialized lash extension cleanser or shampoo along with a small cleaning brush and run it along your lashes to remove any remaining dirt, makeup, or grime.  Use warm water to rinse the cleanser off, and gently pat your lashes with a hand, lint-free microfiber towel or paper towel before allowing them to dry fully. Finally, with a clean spoolie brush, fluff up your eyelash extensions for a fully clean and stylized appearance! Are you interested in getting eyelash extensions?
