Does Eyebrow Hair Grow Back?

Microblading

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at August 30th, 2022

It’s widely understood that the hair on top of your head will (eventually) grow back when you cut it, as long as the root is not permanently removed or damaged; the same goes for most body hair. However, what about eyebrow hair? Does eyebrow hair grow back? We’ve put together a few facts about eyebrow hair loss and what you can do to help promote healthy future growth.

What Causes Eyebrow Hair Loss?

There are several potential causes of eyebrow hair loss, and determining the root cause can help you find a solution. Some causes of eyebrow hair loss are natural aging, autoimmune conditions, skin conditions, hormonal imbalances, medication side effects, nutritional deficiencies, genetic conditions, and more.  Eyebrow hair grows slower than the hair on your scalp. With patience (4-6 months), your brow hairs should grow back to their natural full length. But what if they don’t? What are some reasons that your eyebrow hair might not grow back?

Why Eyebrow Hair Might Not Grow Back

Two primary reasons your eyebrow hair might not grow back are autoimmune disorders and overplucking. The most common type of autoimmune disorder contributing to hair loss is alopecia areata Alopecia Areata Totalis is a specific condition where you lose all the hair on your head, including your eyebrows. There’s no cure for alopecia areata, but multiple treatments are available. The key to preventing total hair loss is to see a doctor if you find that you’re losing the hair on your head. The second reason that eyebrow hair might not grow back is from overplucking. If you’ve spent years in front of mirrors plucking and waxing your eyebrow hair, there’s a chance that you’ve severely damaged the hair’s roots. Once the hair root sustains enough damage, it could die, preventing new hair from growing back again.

What You Can Do If Your Eyebrow Hair Doesn’t Grow Back

If you’re concerned about the status of your eyebrow hair, a doctor can help you source medical treatment. Also, you can try natural remedies such as castor oil or try a brow serum. It generally takes a few months to see results but worth trying if you want a more natural alternative. When using castor oil, a little goes a long way. Too much castor oil can suffocate the follicles. However, trained professionals at eyebrow salons can also help you fix hair loss through microblading treatments.   Microblading involves the application of a semi-permanent tattoo on your eyebrow to provide the look of full and lush eyebrow hair. The microblade artist will work with you to find the best shape, color, and eyebrow fullness for your face. The whole process takes about 30-40 minutes, but the results can last for quite some time, even years in some cases.
