A Professional’s Summer Skincare Guide!

Skin Care

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at August 20th, 2022

Each of the four seasons comes with unique skincare considerations. With varying levels of humidity and heat in the air, the weather affects your skin more than you may realize. As the hottest and most humid season, summer can wreak havoc on your skin if you don’t know how to take care of it. Here’s a summer skincare guide to keeping your skin healthy and rejuvenated!

Summer Skincare Tips:

Wear Sunscreen

It’s important to use SPF all year long, but it’s essential in summer when you’re more likely to stand in the sun’s unobscured rays. Using at least SPF 30 sunscreen every day will ensure you prevent sun damage and keep your skin healthy.  Keep this in mind! Not all sunscreen is created equal, and you will want to determine if you need a physical or chemical sunscreen based on your skin's reaction. Natural mineral sunscreens are typically noncomedogenic - opt for this if you're prone to breakouts.

Protect Sun-Damaged Skin

If you notice any sun damage on your skin, it’s important to care for it going forward. Wear protective clothing, especially when going directly in the sun. Keep sun-damaged portions of your skin out of the sun whenever possible. Staying in the shade is the simplest way to prevent damaging already damaged skin.

Use Antioxidants

Not only can antioxidants prevent sun damage, but they can also help keep your skin looking bright and healthy by calming inflammation. Try to eat antioxidant-rich foods like fruits, nuts, and whole grains during the summer. Consider drinking a smoothie or making a smoothie bowl every day!

Stay Hydrated!

Not only does drinking enough water keep your whole body healthy, but it also prevents your skin from dehydrating. Dehydrated skin can accentuate wrinkles and fine lines on your face. Drinking enough water will help you feel better and have more vibrant skin.

Use Moisturizers

As the summer heat fades into the crisp coolness of fall, you’ll need to make a few changes to your skincare routine. For example, you’ll want to ensure you use more moisturizer. Autumn’s cool, dry air is more prone to drying out your skin, and the transition from one season to the next can leave some people stumped as to why their skin has changed behavior. You may need to update your moisturizer from a lightweight summer blend to a creamier/heavier winter fall blend. If you’re determined to keep your skin healthy through the dog days of summer, using proper routines and products can help. However, booking an appointment with a facial salon like Chic Lash Boutique can also support your skin. Our facialists can assess your skin's needs, remove buildup, calm your skin, and help even out any hyperpigmentation.
