Microblading Scabbing - What Can I Expect?

Microblading

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at July 27th, 2022

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic skin-dye procedure that requires small incisions to be made to the topmost layers of the skin. Much like any minor cut, your skin needs to heal, which can lead to scabbing; this is a completely normal/expected part of the healing process. Here’s what you need to know about scabbing after microblading and how to differentiate normal healing from infection.

Is Scabbing Normal?

Generally speaking, light scabbing is normal after a microblade procedure. In fact, scabbing is an important part of the healing process. You should notice scabbing 3-4 days after your procedure. However, they should start falling out between days 7-12, and it’s normal for a little pigment to come off. Never try to pick off your scabs, and let your stylist know if you’re prone to playing with your skin so they can inform you of supplemental healing techniques.

What Causes Scabbing?

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing procedure. Thus, it requires the brow artist to make small incisions into the papillary dermis of your skin. While the cuts are never deep, your skin still needs to heal. Thus, scabbing occurs as a natural part of the healing process. It’s important to plan your appointment at least a month before a significant event to allow your brows to heal and the pigment to settle.

Microblading Scabbing - The Healing Process

Healing after a microblade procedure is going to be different for everyone. However, there’s an average period when your brows should begin to recover. In the first 3-4 days, your brows may look overly dark and swollen with some redness around the area. Scabs should appear after day four and begin falling off between days 7-12. It may appear that the pigment has disappeared during this time before settling and becoming dark by day 28.

Microblading Scabbing - Signs of Infection

Itchiness and light scabbing are normal signs of healing after a microblade procedure. However, if you’re beginning to notice heavy scabbing, this could be cause for concern; this usually only happens because of poor technique that cuts too deeply into your skin. You might have an infection if you’re still dealing with redness, inflammation, heavy scabbing, and discolored pus after day five. Thankfully, infections are very rare, especially if the procedure is performed by an experienced and certified professional.  Chic Lash Boutique is a premier microblading salon based in Houston.
