Facial

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at March 25th, 2022

You’ve probably heard about specific foods that are helpful to promote a healthier lifestyle. However, did you know that certain foods contain important nutrients that improve skin health? Yes, skincare goes beyond daily cosmetic routines; your diet can significantly impact how your skin looks and feels. Meals containing fish, nuts, and citrus fruits contain essential nutrients to protect your skin from UV rays and prevent premature wrinkles. We’re always looking to share health and beauty tips, and we want you to have strategies to be the most fabulous you!  Here are a few tips about nutrient-dense foods that can help improve your skin health :)

Fatty Fish and Plants

Simply put, fish is a great meal choice for maintaining healthy skin. Fish high in Omega-3 fatty acids fight inflammation and improve cholesterol. For all the vegetarians out there, don’t worry; there are plenty of plant-based foods for people who eat vegetable-based meals. The following foods are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids: Fish:
  • Herring
  • Salmon
  • Tuna
  • Mackerel
  • Sardines
Plants:
  • Almonds
  • Walnuts
  • Flax Seeds
  • Chia Seeds
  • Soybean or Canola Oil
  • Edamame

Vitamin C Heavy Foods

Vitamin C is a well-rounded antioxidant that protects your body and skin from premature damage because Vitamin C promotes collagen production, thickens the dermis, and increases the longevity of healthy skin. It’s a good idea to eat Vitamin C-dense foods to maintain healthy, vibrant skin throughout the whole year. To help prevent premature wrinkles, consider incorporating the following foods into your meals:
  • Bell peppers
  • Strawberries
  • Citrus fruit
  • Broccoli
  • Kiwi

Polyphenols

Polyphenols are strong antioxidants found in a wide variety of foods, even in some you’d least expect. For example, dark chocolate is full of polyphenols, meaning indulging in a tasty treat now and again may protect you from sun rays and decrease rough skin texture! Ingesting foods with polyphenols can prevent permanent UV ray damage - polyphenols can be found in the following foods:
  • Coffee and tea
  • Dark chocolate
  • Grapes

Lycopene Dense Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, a major carotenoid that helps to naturally protect your skin from the sun. Lycopene may also prevent premature wrinkles and promote smoother, healthier skin. The great thing about tomatoes is they’re great on everything, so don’t spare on that lycopene!

Foods That Are Rich in Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an important antioxidant that prevents cell damage; for this reason, Vitamin E works as a natural layer of sunscreen that protects your skin from UV rays. The following foods contain large amounts of Vitamin E:
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Almonds
