How to Remove Eyelash Extensions - It’s Best to Leave it to the Professionals

Eyelash Extensions

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at September 30th, 2021

Eyelash extensions are an established trend of self-care that more and more people are adopting. Adding extensions to your style is an incredibly versatile way to change up your look and become even more fabulous! It’s not really a secret that we are big supporters/fans of eyelash extensions at Chic Lash Boutique, as it’s one of our most popular services! However, how do you remove eyelash extensions? We’ve got an ongoing series of articles in our blog called “It’s Best to Leave It to the Professionals.” We have explored this theme with eyebrow threading at home and applying at-home eyelash extensions; at the salons, we get lots of questions regarding removing eyelash extensions at home and we thought we’d address these questions in a new article within this series. We’re not trying to be Debbie-downers! We just don’t want you injuring yourself or causing cosmetic damage to your treatment because of inexperience. It is always recommended to have a professional remove your eyelash extensions, even so, we know that can’t always happen. So, here are ways to protect yourself if you need to remove your eyelash extensions yourself. Don’t Pick at Your Eyelashes Whatever you do, never try to pick or pull at your extensions. This can damage the healthy lashes that are already there. This can also ruin the integrity of the extensions, making them fall off when the real lashes start to grow out. Try your best not to touch your lashes for any reason. You want to keep them as healthy as possible for as long as possible and picking will only shorten your lashes’ lifespans.

Use an Oil-Based Cleanser Using an oil-based cleanser is the last thing you want to do if you want to keep your extensions. But, if you are trying to remove them, it can be very helpful. Oil-based cleansers can weaken the strength of the lash glue, allowing them to fall out quicker. If you do choose to use it, move the cleanser in gentle, circular motions. Do this for several nights until the lashes fall out. Take Hot Showers Any lash artist working at a lash extension salon will tell you that you should avoid steam or hot showers to elongate the integrity of your lashes. Thus, it can help you remove them if you don’t want them on anymore. With that said, as mentioned before, never pull or pick at them. Bad bacteria can spread into your eye, even in the shower. It’s best to let the shower steam dissolve the glue for you.

Use a Professional Lash-Glue Dissolver Showers and oil-based cleansers can help remove your extensions. But, nothing will work better than a professional dissolver. Dampen a cotton swab with the dissolver and apply it to your lashes. A professional dissolver will cause the least amount of damage, especially since some extensions are fastened with superglue. Even so, avoid getting the dissolver in your eyes upon application. Visit a Professional Eyelash Salon These solutions may work temporarily, but they should be a last resort option. Even if you do everything right, you can still invoke major damage to your eye or lashes. Always try to see a trained professional at an eyelash salon for eyelash extension removal. By visiting one of our eyelash extension salons, you will be in great hands for safe eyelash extension removal!
