Lash Lift Process - Why Two Sessions Are Sometimes Better Than One

Eyelash Extensions, Lash Lifting, Tinting Services

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at September 29th, 2020

Do you want to boost the volume and curls of your lashes? You have a few options during the lash lift process. You could opt for eyelash extensions — these will make your lashes longer and fuller. However, eyelash extensions do require semi-regular maintenance (learn more differences between a lash lift vs extensions here).  Eyelash tinting can give your lashes a darker look without the need for mascara or other makeup — but this won’t give you more volume.  If you want something that can give you the boost you want for your lashes without a ton of maintenance, we’d recommend an eyelash lift. In fact, sometimes two lash lift sessions can give you even better results than a single session alone. Why? Well, keep reading to find out! We’re going over what a lash lift is, the lash lift process we follow here at Chic Lash Boutique, and why we sometimes recommend our clients get two sessions instead of one. Let’s get started!

What Is a Lash Lift?

The best way to think about lash lifts is to think of it as a perm for your eyelashes. Our expert lash artists will use special gels and silicone pads to create luscious, curled lashes. While this doesn’t make your lashes any thicker, lash lifts help your lashes to appear more voluminous thanks to the beautiful curl from the lash lift process. Lash lifts can last anywhere between two and six weeks (thanks to our humid Houston climate!).

Our Lash Lift Process

Understanding the lash lift process is essential to understanding why two sessions are oftentimes better than one. So let’s look at how our lash experts perform a lash lift at Chic Lash Boutique:

The Consultation

Before every appointment, your artist will thoroughly explain the service you’re receiving.  You’ll also be asked questions on how you want your lashes to look so the artist can plan out how curled they should be, how lifted they should be, etc. Your artist will also go over your skincare routine and give you lash lift maintenance tips to care for them.  You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions and be able to make your aesthetic preferences known so you can get the result you’ve been dreaming of.

Pad & Eyelash Placement

Based on what you went over during your consultation, your artist will now place gel pads under your eyes to absorb any excess product.  Next, your artist will apply & glue silicon eye pads to your upper eyelids. These pads are selected based on how much you want your lashes to curl.  Once the pads are in place, your artist will begin to form and glue your natural lashes around the pad with a very gentle & safe glue. This process is key —  how the lashes are glued around this pad will determine the outcome of the service. This takes ~15 minutes.

Apply Lash Lift & Perm Lotion

Once the lashes are glue, the next step is to apply our perming & lifting solution to the lashes in the direction they are glued. This lotion is made with specific compounds that break down the current bonds in your lashes. This allows the bonds to reform & re-shape your lashes to have the desired curl & lift This takes ~5-15 minutes.

Setting the Lotion

Once the previous step of the lash lift process is complete, the lash lift lotion is removed. Then, your artist will apply setting lotion to “lock in” the new shape. This lotion works by securing the new structural bonds formed in your lashes. This takes ~5-15 minutes.

Apply Nourishing Agent

In this final step, your artist will remove the setting lotion and begin to clean off all excess product with a nourishing agent. The nourishing agent supplies your lashes with nutrients to help strengthen and moisturize the lashes after they’ve been processed with chemical compounds in the lash lift & setting lotions.

Sometimes, Two Sessions Are Better Than One

Lash lifts work by utilizing chemical compounds in the lash lift & setting lotions. These compounds break down the bonds in your eyelashes and restructure them to form beautiful curly lashes.  At Chic Lash Boutique, the products we use are salon grade and effective, yet gentle on the lashes and your skin. However, these are still chemicals. Thus, it's important to take time to process your lashes in a way that does not damage them. One way to do this is to take multiple sessions to avoid over-processing your natural lashes and damaging them.  Think of a lash lift like coloring or perming the hair on your head - leaving the chemicals on for too long or using chemicals that are too harsh for your unique lashes may give you the results you want in one session... but it can also strip your lashes of all it's lust and nutrients, thereby damaging the hairs.  It's important to be patient with the chemical process in order to create a sustainable look. Our goal is to provide you with the results you want without ever damaging your natural lashes.  Also, it’s important to note that once you have received a lash lift and we have been able to restructure your lashes, future lifts will take much easier (aka in a single session) because the bonds in your lashes will already be restructured.
