Spring and Summer Beauty Trends 2020: Fun New Styles to Try!

Insights

Posted by Jennifer Ngo at April 6th, 2020

Beauty trends in 2019 brought us bright and colorful makeup palettes, emphasis on dewy & glowing skin, bold & dark brows, and clothing styles ranging from vintage t-shirts to industrial-style accessories. So far this winter, we’ve seen red & orange lips, bright pink/red/green hair, and large & in-charge earrings take center stage for modern trends. What’s in store for spring and summer beauty trends 2020, you might ask? Let’s look at some trends that we here at Chic Lash Boutique think are going to take over the warm months of this year.

Brow Lamination

The past few years have seen a huge spike in the popularity of large, bold, and beautiful eyebrows. Gone are the days of the early 2000s when your look wasn't complete until you’d plucked your brows until they looked like they were a line drawn with sharpie.  Ever since the beginning of Chic Lash Boutique, we’ve been noticing a trend for these big, bold, and gorgeous eyebrows. This brought the rise of microblading and eyebrow threading in our industry in order to keep the brows structured and perfectly shaped as well. As we move into 2020, though, we’ve been noticing a bit of a revival for the “natural” brow. Of course, we don’t mean completely natural. What we do see happening is the need and want for eyebrows that are a bit less structured and a bit more natural-looking (aka fluffy brows). Enter: brow lamination. Brow lamination is like a lash lift for your eyebrows. It makes your eyebrows look voluminous, shiny, and “fluffy” to create that natural and wild sort of look. Think “Cara Delevingne right when she wakes up in the morning” type of look. Brow lamination is also less of a commitment and lower maintenance compared to services like microblading.

Take this time to decide what you want your next brow look to be.

Large Lashes on Top and Bottom

At Chic Lash Boutique, we’re no stranger to large and voluminous lashes. What’s new about this 2020 beauty trend is making your bottom lashes as full and bold as your top lashes. In years past, a small swipe of mascara usually was all our bottom lashes would get. This year, though, we’ve been noticing more and more people going all out with their bottom lashes. Allure magazine called this “double-decker” lashes. Whether you want an eyelash tint for both top and bottom or you go all out with falsies, this look pairs well with a vintage European or 70s punk rock styled outfit. Another bonus of this trend is that it makes enough of a statement that you don’t need much else, makeup-wise. The lashes themselves are the statement, meaning you can skip the long process and head right out the door.

Bejeweling Your Look

Another interesting makeup trend seen everywhere from here in Houston to New York Fashion Week is adding small crystal embellishments to your face. We’ve seen them in the inner corner of the eye, stylized on the eyebrow, on the cheekbone, and more! This look is great for someone looking to make a statement and who isn’t afraid to break the norm of style trends.  Don’t be afraid to make this trend your own, either. Try pairing different colored crystals with your eyeshadow, just using one crystal for a slight sparkle, or go all out and cover your entire eyelids with these embellishments (as you can see in this awesome YouTube video).

A Modern Mullet

After quite a few makeup and face related trends, let's end with a real wildcard. You might think that the words “modern” and “mullet” don’t fit together, but you’d be surprised! With the past few years of style relying heavily on 80s and 90s inspiration, we’re surprised it took this long for the mullet to make its way back into the mainstream.  This hairstyle ignores gender and style aesthetic fitting in perfectly with everyone from male hipsters to female fashion models and everyone in between. The modern mullet is less intense than the mullets of the past (thank goodness) while still giving you a retro vibe.  This style works great with hipster styles, paired with a denim jacket and skinny jeans. Or, it can be made chic and sleek pairing it with a sharp blazer and a pencil skirt to give off 1990s CEO vibes.
