So, you’re looking and feeling great with your new eyelash extensions Houston is raving about (Chic Lash extensions, of course!). At Chic Lash Boutique, we want to make sure that your new extensions last as long as possible and stay looking full and beautiful for as long as possible too If you’ve forgotten some steps, need a refresher, or simply are looking for expert lash cleaning advice, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’re going over how to clean eyelash extensions at home to make sure they look clean & full for as long as possible!

Clean Eyelids with Cotton Q-Tip and Cleanser

The first step of this process is to clean your eyelid and the skin surrounding your eye. We recommend using the Xtreme Lashes Makeup Remover and a tightly-woven cotton Q-tip for this step.  You can use any cleanser that you choose, but you should always use a tightly woven Q-tip like the one we send you home with; never use swabs or cloths that have loose fibers when cleaning your eyelash extensions.  Loose fibers can easily get caught in your eyelash extensions, pulling them out prematurely which can be painful. which can result in premature lash loss & shedding. Once you’ve sprayed the cleanser onto the Q-tip, thoroughly clean your eyelids and skin surrounding the eye. These areas have a lot of natural oils and build-up, which can cause the lash glue to break down if not cleaned regularly. Build-up and debris can lead to infection and can also lead to premature lash loss, so be sure to thoroughly cleanse the area to avoid this.

Use Fine-Tip Microfiber Wand to Clean In-Between Lashes

After your eyelash extension appointment, we also send you home with a fine-tip microfiber wand that you’ll use to clean in-between your lashes. Throughout the day and during sleep, debris, oils, and other build-up will accumulate between your lashes. Sleepies or crusties can buildup overnight, embedding between lashes and along the lash line.  The fine-tip wand is used to get in-between your lashes to remove this debris and any crusties formed overnight.

Use Mascara Wand to Clean the Lashes

The last item we provide you with is a reusable mascara wand that will allow you to clean the lashes themselves. Spray the wand with your cleanser and use it to brush your eyelash extensions. There are two reasons why we recommend this step. First, the cleanser and brushing will remove any leftover debris or oils that could damage your extensions. Second, brushing the lashes like this will stimulate your natural blood flow to your natural lash follicles, which can aid in lash growth and fullness. As you brush, make sure you start in the middle of the lashes and not at the base. Starting at the base could lead to lashes prematurely popping out or falling off. You may notice that some lashes naturally fall off during this step. Not only is that normal, but it’s also good for the appearance and health of your lashes.  This helps for more natural and healthy application of new lashes at your next relash appointment. It also allows your natural lashes room to grow, which can promote the overall health of your lashes.

Rinse and Dry

After cleansing, you’ll want to rinse your lashes to remove any excess product. This can easily be done in the shower by allowing water to simply drip down your lashes, or you can wet your fingers and gently rinse the lashes yourself. Air drying the lashes is perfectly fine. If you want to dry them with a cloth (a natural reusable bamboo cotton round is great and sustainable), make sure that it’s a tightly-woven cloth (as with the Q-tip) that has no loose fibers. Loose fibers easily get caught on extensions and can cause them to pop out prematurely.
