Microblading

Why do some artists use numbing cream and others do not? While some microblade with numbing cream and others offer microblading without numbing cream, clearly its use. As for us? We have found that the best results come when no numbing cream is used. Here are a couple of reasons why. First, the use of numbing cream for permanent makeup in the state of Texas is regulated by the Texas Health and Human Services Department. The rule is that if you use a numbing cream, it cannot have more than one numbing agent in it and the percentage of that agent cannot exceed 5 percent. It’s important to always contact the department to double check if regulations have been changed. In our experience, the use of a 5 percent lidocaine numbing cream is actually more mentally effective rather than physical. Most clients state the pain level is the same with 5 percent lidocaine and without. So in effect, it often works as a sort of placebo for something that is not too painful. Second, microblading without numbing cream has advantages for your skin. Numbing creams changed the canvas and texture of your skin, affecting pigment retention and the look of your brows. In our experience, it’s been best to avoid a numbing agent altogether to achieve the best results in terms of color retention and overall look. Opting out of a numbing cream also helps prevent reactions from the numbing cream; some clients don’t realize they’re allergic to numbing agents until they use them on the day of and that can be scary! If you do opt to use a numbing agent, please do a patch test prior to the day of your service. Use of a numbing cream varies per artist. Results also vary per artist and using it versus not using it doesn’t necessarily mean one artist is better than another. It’s up to you to consult and review your artist’s work in order to determine if they’re the best match for you. During your consultation ask as many questions as possible and if you don’t know what to ask, have your artist guide you through it. This allows you to determine their knowledge and expertise on matters of the brow.
