How is Eyelash Tinting Done? Eyelash tinting can work wonders for those of us with light or non-black lashes. But for those who aren't positive how eyelash tinting works, it's good to know what the eyelash tinting process is like. And of course to know whether it's safe or not. Eyelash tinting is absolutely safe! The tint or pigments used are generally salon grade in order to yield optimal results. The entire process takes about 10 to 15 minutes and the results can last up to 6 weeks. Now to the process. Prior to getting started, your artist will perform a consultation. During this time, your artist will walk you through the process and review your lashes. If your lashes are already black or close to it, then you are not a good candidate for eyelash tinting. The eyelash tinting process will only color the lashes by making them darker, similar to how eyebrow tinting works. Depending on whether you want black-brown, blue-black, or pure black your artist will then begin to mix the pigment and allow it to develop with an oxidizing agent. The oxidizing agent used is typically hydrogen peroxide-based. While the tint is developing and you are resting on the bed, your lash artist will begin to place under-eye gel or tint pads on the under-eye area of your face. The under-eye gel pads will absorb and collect loose tint and allow for brushing of color onto your lashes without touching your skin. Once the pads are secured and the tint is developed, your lash artist will begin to paint the tint onto your lashes, covering as much surface area as possible. The tint will be left on your lashes for a few minutes for color absorption and further oxidation. After a few minutes have passed, your artist will begin to clean the tint from your lashes with saline, lip-gloss wands, and cotton rounds. It is important to stay relaxed during this time and not squint your eyes. Staying relaxed with eyes closed will prevent tint from getting into your eyes. Do not squint as squinting will push the pigment into your eyes. If tint gets into your eyes, your lash artist can rinse with saline and fan dry to prevent any irritation. Once eye pads are removed, you’re all set! It’s important to note that gray or white hairs may not always take the tint as the molecular makeup of those hairs are different than the standard blonde or brown hairs.
