Eyelash Extensions, Insights

So you have been looking for ways to improve your look and came across some ways to make your eyelashes look flashier. But the question remains: Exactly what are eyelash extensions? What are they made of? Are they safe? Should you be putting them on your eyes? Don't worry. Eyelash extensions range from synthetic fibers to real mink fur. Real mink fur is not as highly promoted and we don’t recommend usage of these lashes, not only for animal welfare but for the consistency in look. Real mink can be difficult to work with due to inconsistency in thickness and length. They also do not have a natural curl; therefore, you may still need to curl them. Their plus side is that they are very light and feel like natural fluffy hairs. Synthetic eyelash hairs come in faux mink, silk, and acrylic. Acrylic was one of the first kinds and has quickly been replaced by silk and faux mink. You can tell an extension is acrylic based on the thickness, density, and plastic-like feel of the lashes. Acrylic lashes are not nearly as comfortable as their successors. Faux mink and silk are most commonly used as they feel almost like real hairs, are lightweight, can be made to be hypo-allergenic, and are manufactured to perfection. As seen from the exhibit above, eyelash extensions can be manufactured in multiple lengths, thicknesses, and curvatures. The extensions used for each service should be tailored towards each person’s individual desired look, eye type, and natural lash health. As to whether or not eyelashes are safe? Generally, they are, but it does depend on the individual. Sensitivities to certain products could trigger allergic reactions. Having a patch test can help solve that problem. A professional will be able to assess which extension will work best for you.
